Nitrogen is a colorless, odorless, gas that is used to help plants grow. Nitrogen provides plants and animals with the proteins they need to survive. Nitrogen is an inert element which means it doesn't mix with other elements very well but when mixed with oxygen and hydrogen it is most useful. All living things need nitrogen to grow so that means humans as well. Nitrogen is a gas when it is at a room temperature heat. Nitrogen can be found on the periodic table, its symbol is N. Its atomic number is 7, atomic mass is 14 and it has 7 neutron and electrons. Nitrogen is a nonmetal. It can be found in group 15 period 2 and has 5 valence electrons. 2 other elements that are in the same family as nitrogen are arsenic and bismuth. 78% of our atmosphere is nitrogen.

Nitrogen can create potassium nitrate KNO3 and sodium nitrate NaNO3.

Nitrogen can make steel, as a refrigerant to keep things cold (when in liquid form) , and it can be found in soil to make plants grow.

Nitrogen was created in 1772 by Daniel Rutherford in Scotland.
